Hi! 😄

My name is Dena Gebelius and I was born in the vibrant landscapes of California and raised in the tranquil outskirts of Stockholm, Sweden. I’m a DINKWAD (Dual Income No Kids With A Dog). Our furbaby is a Cockapoo named Peppi, whom I treat as though I carried for 9 months. 🤣

I love hiking, camping, rock climbing, biking, traveling, and watching soccer (my favorite team is Atlanta United and Chelsea).

I also love spending time with family and friends. Definitely a mama’s and daddy’s girl. I’m a former tech executive turned entrepreneur and writer. I have a passion for the realms of aliens, the supernatural, YA and all things conspiracy.

Query

I am excited to present my debut novel, The Awakening, the first installment in a series titled Fate’s Guardians. The manuscript is complete at 93,850 words and ready to submit should you be interested in reviewing it.

Pitch/Summary
Fifteen-year-old Nathan Blackwood wakes to fresh bruises on his neck—bruises that vanish as mysteriously as they appear—only to discover at school that he’s not the only one having strange experiences. With his best friend Elijah Fields and three classmates, Nathan endures a shared vision of an apocalyptic battle between angels and demons. Their collective horror intensifies when they realize this was no simple hallucination: they’re reincarnated guardians from ancient times, each burdened with a piece of a prophecy meant to save humanity from a mounting darkness.

Determined to understand their emerging powers—from supernatural healing to celestial strength—they soon uncover ominous signs on campus and within their minds. Shadowy figures stalk them, nightmares bleed into reality, and personal wounds from the past threaten to tear the group apart before they can even unravel the prophecy. Nathan grapples with the memory of losing his parents, Elijah wrestles with nightmares demanding his submission to evil, and their newfound allies harbor insecurities that could split the team. But as doubts and resentments simmer, the threat of a catastrophic invasion looms closer.

Now, these five teens must join forces to learn the truth behind their reincarnation and stop an otherworldly evil that seeks to exploit their weaknesses. If even one falters, the veil between our world and a nightmare realm will shatter. All hope for survival rests on their unity and the fragile bonds they’re only beginning to forge.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I would be thrilled to send the completed manuscript and discuss this series further. I look forward to the possibility of working with you.

Synopsis

Long before modern civilization, eight archangels sealed a prophecy foretelling the return of five guardians destined to save humanity. Centuries later, fifteen-year-old Nathan Blackwood—still grieving his parents’ tragic death— jolts awake, only to discover bruises around his neck as if someone or something attacked him in his sleep.

Haunted by vivid nightmares, Nathan hopes that attending Rose Academy with his best friend, Elijah Fields, might bring a taste of normalcy. Instead, their arrival thrusts them into an ancient mystery that has lain dormant for millennia.

On the first day of class, Professor Clark reveals an ancient scroll to Nathan, Elijah, and three other students—Freya Carrington, Adrienne Mickaelson, and Milo Green. Flickering lights plunge the lecture hall into sudden darkness, and the five teens share a shocking vision of angels battling demons under a blood-red sky. When the lights snap back on, and they regain their senses, their classmates don’t recall anything out of the ordinary—but for these five, nothing will ever be the same.

In the days that follow, each teen faces inexplicable terrors. Nathan begins seeing a shadowy figure with glowing red eyes stalking the campus, fueling suspicions that a lurking evil has targeted him. Elijah’s nightmares begin to intensify, threatening to consume him in a realm of darkness where an evil force demands his submission. Freya, Adrienne, and Milo also sense the darkness closing in—along with a surge of uncanny abilities ranging from necromancy to healing and celestial strength. Though friendship blossoms under the shared burden, fears and insecurities sow seeds of mistrust.

As they struggle to harness their newfound powers and decode an enigmatic prophecy, they’re drawn into a battle once dismissed as pure myth. Mysterious omens, sinister manifestations, and eerie nightmares push each of them to confront inner doubts and the terrifying possibility that failure is not an option. If their unity falters, the veil separating our world from a nightmarish realm will shatter—ending all hope for salvation. But if these five can overcome the darkness within and without, they may yet rise to fulfill their destiny as the Divine Five, ensuring humanity’s future before all is lost.

Is there something about my background that will help a publisher in selling my book?

I bring a strong technical and media background to support and amplify the novel’s reach. I founded a media company that created the Fate’s Guardians podcast—an immersive audio experience that brings The Awakening to life in a fresh, engaging way.

It’s currently available on major platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Alongside the podcast, I’ve developed a dedicated website for the Fate’s Guardians franchise, strengthening our online community and brand visibility.

Through my involvement in the entertainment industry, I’ve forged relationships with executives and producers in the film space, offering valuable connections for potential adaptation opportunities. This combination of technical expertise, established media content, and direct lines to film professionals will help a publisher position and market The Awakening for maximum impact.

What makes my book different?

Readers who enjoy series like Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, and The Fallen Series by Thomas Sniegoski will find familiar elements in The Awakening: a young cast discovering hidden supernatural abilities, angelic and demonic influences woven into the modern world, and an epic struggle between light and darkness.

What Makes The Awakening Different?
While those series focus on mythological or half-angelic lineages, The Awakening introduces a reincarnation twist wherein five ordinary teens realize they’re the reborn guardians from a biblical prophecy—uniting diverse powers (necromancy, healing, celestial strength and more) under a single banner. Instead of your traditional hero story, these characters grapple with trauma, grief, and modern adolescence as they’re blindsided by their destinies.

The setting at the prestigious Rose Academy blends academic intrigue with an undercurrent of hidden evil, allowing for a balance of day-to-day teenage drama and high-stakes supernatural conflict. Finally, the Fate’s Guardians multimedia approach, complete with an immersive podcast and a dedicated franchise website, provides an innovative platform for storytelling—bridging novel and auditory experience in ways that make The Awakening stand out in the YA fantasy sphere.

Who's interested?

  1. Young Adult Urban Fantasy: Fans of supernatural school settings, hidden abilities, and paranormal battles in a contemporary world.

  2. Character-Driven Adventures: Readers who appreciate diverse, flawed teens finding camaraderie and facing personal struggles while uniting against a larger threat.

  3. Series with Expanding Mythology: Audiences who want room for sequels, deeper worldbuilding, and the evolving arcs of multiple heroes.

In short, The Awakening targets fans of modern YA fantasy, angel-and-demon sagas, and ensemble-cast tales about young people discovering extraordinary destinies and fighting to save the world.
